When some expressed hesitation, the missionary looked at them and said, “Oh, I get it. You’re afraid to die.”
Needless to say, they went.

Yet there’s also a deep longing inside us to be part of a story much bigger than our own comfort.
We have eternity ahead, a place where we can rest and enjoy God forever. So why not take a risk now? Why not step into something that matters?

Marlin Miller:
A friend and I were having coffee and he was telling me about his other friend. And this other friend was a soldier turned missionary that went into the hardest and the most dangerous places you can imagine. And he had come back to the states and he was back to help raise funding and to hopefully recruit a few folks to come back to the field with him. The folks that he was talking to had expressed some cold feet and probably for good reason. I mean, this guy was not asking him to go hand out daisies to a bunch of kitties, but his response was stinking priceless. He said, and I’m going to quote it, he said, “Oh, I get it. You’re afraid to die.” Needless to say, they went. Approaching life in a way like that scares me to no end. And I have a million and one reasons to never put myself into harm’s way or my family.
But on the other hand, I think there’s also this deep longing and this tug to be pulled into a story that is much larger than what I can ever imagine. And I guess the reality that I’m expressing is why not take a risk? We have eternity coming where we can rest and we can enjoy him forever. Let’s do something that matters now.
